How to Find More Time to Get the Important Things Done

Elder Care in Putnam NY

When you’re stressed out, one of the things that you’re most likely to say is that you have absolutely no time to do the things that you need and want to do. This problem is especially the case for
family caregivers, because the to do list never seems to end.

Set Some Priorities

If your priorities are all over the place, your time management will be, too. Take some time to really look at your obligations and determine where your priorities lie. Then you can look at how you actually spend your time and see how your priorities line up with what you’re actually doing. If your schedule is full of things that aren’t on your priority list, then it’s time to clear out your schedule.

Learn When to Say “No”

The best way to clear out your schedule is to eliminate the things that aren’t on your priority list. This means learning to say “no” to the new tasks, appointments, and obligations that aren’t part of your priorities. If you’re having a hard time doing this, start with saying no to little things that you don’t want in your life and practice until you get better at it.

Get Organized

You probably lose more time than you think to disorganization. If that’s a particular problem for you, work at decluttering your life and your home while you’re decluttering your schedule. Start small, though. You don’t have to get your home perfect immediately. Even tackling little organizational projects can give you a lot more peace while you’re waiting to do the rest.

Line Up Some Help

For some people, priorities take up the majority of their tight schedule and they honestly don’t have anything they can remove to free up more time. In this situation, you can give yourself some leeway by delegating some of your priorities to other people. Maybe the kids can help out more with chores at home, or you can figure out a way to balance responsibilities at work. With your caregiving responsibilities, having elder care providers that you can count on makes all the difference.

Don’t Forget Yourself

Another sure fire way to feel like you have no time at all is to ignore your own needs. One of your biggest priorities needs to be self-care. You need to make sure that you’re meeting your needs so that you can help the other people in your life.

Once you master some of these tips, you’ll find that you have more time than you realized.
